Nothing, the London-based tech company, has begun rolling out its latest update for the Nothing Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro. The update introduces a range of enhancements to its AI-powered platform, Essential Space. The update, part of the broader Nothing OS 3.1, is designed to improve user experience with new camera features and better integration of the Essential Key in the Camera app.
One of the key changes is the integration of the Essential Key with the Camera app. Now, a quick press on the Essential Key allows users to capture photos, while a longer press activates voice input for adding notes. With the new update, it’s easier to separate important photos from photo reminders, giving users a more streamlined way of managing images and notes.
Essential Space, a platform that simplifies the process of logging ideas, reminders, and inspirations, gets a performance boost with this update. It functions as a virtual memory bank, helping users capture and organise content without much effort. In the coming months, features like Smart Collections, Focused Search, and Flip to Record will be added to the platform, promising more tools to help users manage their information.
For photography enthusiasts, the update brings several camera improvements. A more intuitive zoom interaction has been introduced, and the front-facing camera’s reddish skin tone issue has been addressed. Indoor shots with the rear camera will now have better white balance, while portrait clarity has improved, especially in backlit conditions. The Phone (3a) Pro also benefits from improved focusing accuracy at a 2x focal length, resulting in sharper photos.
The update also includes performance improvements for the Always On Display (AOD) and a few bug fixes aimed at improving system stability. For users who haven’t yet received the update, they can manually check for updates via the “System Updates” section in the device settings. The rollout is gradual, so some users may need to wait a bit longer before seeing the update on their devices.
