Senior neurologist P. Vijaya has been elected as the president of the Indian Stroke Association (ISA) 2025-26.

Dr. Vijaya, working with the Lalitha Group of Hospitals, Guntur, was unanimously elected during the 18th annual Indian National Stroke Conference (INSC), held from March 20 to 23 in Lucknow. She is the first neurologist from Andhra Pradesh to be elected to the position. The Indian Stroke Association (ISA) is the leading scientific and professional organisation representing stroke specialists across India, with over 1,300 members. In a press release on Thursday, she informed that brain stroke can happen either because of a block of a blood vessel to the brain or rupture of a blood vessel, causing damage and loss of function typically called paralysis.

Dr. Vijaya outlined her vision under the theme: “Brain Stroke – Time to Take Action”. Key priorities include strengthening stroke awareness, developing a national stroke action plan, knowledge and capacity building, and empowering public awareness. With this vision, ISA aims to make stroke a regional, state level and national priority and drive impactful changes to improve stroke prevention, treatment, and recovery across India, she observed.
