Suryalanka beach to get Rs 98 crore for development works

Vijayawada: In a big boost to the development of beach tourism, the Union govt has agreed to release Rs 98 crore for the development of Suryalanka beach under Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0. The Centre has already approved the release of Rs 172 crore for the Akhanda Godavari and Gandikota projects under Sasci scheme.
The Centre has so far granted Rs 270 crore for various tourism projects across Andhra Pradesh after NDA returned to power about 10 months ago. Tourism minister Kandula Durgesh personally met Union minister for tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawath, and pressed for grant of new projects in AP.
“We will develop Surya Lanka beach into a world-class tourist destination with international standards,” said minister Kandula Durgesh. He appreciated the sustained efforts of tourism special chief secretary Ajay Jain, MD Amrapali Kata to get funds from the Centre.
He said that development of beaches as global tourist destinations will create new employment opportunities in the region. The development plans include the creation of modern amenities and infrastructure, and ensuring the beach is maintained in a pristine condition.
He said they will also work towards getting Blue Flag certification for Suryalanka beach later. He said that they have lined up several tourism development projects in the state and the Centre is also keen to extend its support.
“We found that many scenic spots in Andhra Pradesh have potential to be scaled up as global tourist destinations. In addition to creation of infrastructure and new facilities, we need support of the tourists in maintaining them clean and plastic free,” said Durgesh.
