Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express Train Accident Today Live News Updates: One person was killed and several others were injured after as many as 11 coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi station in Odisha’s Cuttack on Sunday. The deceased passenger was from Alipurdar in West Bengal and eight others, who were injured, have been admitted to the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack for treatment. Several others were given first-aid treatment at the spot.

What happened? The train was heading to Kamakhya station in Assam’s Guwahati from Bengaluru and the accident happened on the down line of the all-important Howrah-Chennai route, disrupting railway services, officials told PTI. Rescue operation has been completed, according to an Odisha Fire Service official. Efforts are being made to clear the accident site at the earliest, the officials added.

Trains diverted, helpline set up: Following the incident, three trains were diverted – Dhauli Express, Neelachal Express and Purulia Expres and a special train has commenced its journey to Kamakhya with the stranded passengers from the derailment site. Expressing concern over the derailment, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “Authorities are on-site, ensuring assistance and restoring normalcy at the earliest. Helplines activated for support.” Assam Chief Minister Himanta biswa sarma said two persons from his state were injured in the accident and are undergoing treatment.
