Hyderabad phone tapping case: Sravan Rao not cooperating, say investigators

Hyderabad: In the phone tapping case, A Sravan Kumar Rao, who was questioned on Saturday about his role in the alleged conspiracy, refused to disclose at whose behest he was in touch with the then intelligence sleuths during the BRS tenure. Sources said that for many of the questions posed by the investigators, he was allegedly non-cooperative.
When Sravan Kumar was allegedly holed up in the US, police conducted searches at his residence and his office, recovering documents and gadgets. He was questioned about how he knew former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief T Prabhakar Rao, DSP Praneet Rao, and other accused in this case. However, he did not give any reply about how he knew them.
Denying the police allegation that he was involved in the conspiracy to tap phones and place illegal surveillance on the then opposition leaders, Sravan Kumar said that he shared information about the election survey his media organisation conducted. Police are preparing to question him further on April 2.
Police are waiting for the Nampally court to make a decision on their petition against Prabhakar Rao as a proclaimed offender. On Monday, the former SIB officer’s petition seeking anticipatory bail is expected to come for hearing in the high court.
