Vijaywada: As many as 41 assistant professors with super-specialist qualification have been recruited at govt general hospitals (GGH) and super-speciality hospitals, thus reducing the vacancies in this category by 25% in the state.
According to the directorate of medical education (DME), of the 365 sanctioned posts of super specialty assistant professors, 166 posts ( 45% of the total sanctioned) were vacant before this special recruitment.
On March 24, the DME held walk-in interviews following which recruitments were done for 41 posts of assistant professors. Following the verification of the documents, the DME announced the recruitment of 41 doctors with DM and MCH qualification in addition to post graduation in the respective fields.
At a meeting held by health minister Satya Kumar Yadav to review the vacant posts, it was revealed that of the total 682 sanctioned posts of assistant professors, associate professors and professors belonging to super-specialty category, 341 posts (50% of the total posts) were vacant. This was in stark contrast to the claims of the previous YSRCP govt.
Concerned with the high vacancies, the health minister directed officials to take special efforts to fill up the vacancies.
Furthermore, of the sanctioned posts of 157 associate professors, 79 posts accounting for 50% of the total are vacant. Against the 160 professors’ posts 60% are vacant. To address these deficits, DME informed that it will hold walk-in interviews for filling up the posts of associate professors and professors next week.
Across govt hospitals in tertiary healthcare sector, super specialty services are being provided in 12 disciplines which are cardiology, cardio-thoracic surgery, gastro-enterology, surgical gastro-enterology, endocrinology, nephrology, neurology, neonatology, paediatric surgery, surgical oncology and urology.
For super specialty doctors, an additional amount of Rs30,000 per month is paid as an incentive.
