Films on global LGBTQIA+ stories screened in Hyderabad

The British Deputy High Commission, Hyderabad, in association with WeHub, hosted the screening of ‘Five Films for Freedom’, a yearly celebration of global LGBTQIA+ stories on Sunday.

The films, in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual people across the world, were produced by the British Council in partnership with BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival.

The 2025 festival featured films from Indonesia, New Zealand, the U.K., and the U.S./China on stories of love, courage, secrets and betrayal.

According to British Deputy High Commissioner (A.P. and Telangana) Gareth Wynn Owen, the films celebrate diverse LGBTQIA+ voices from around the world and he hoped they inspire conversations, challenge perceptions and celebrate the freedom to love and express oneself.

The five films selected for 2025 are Dragfox by Lisa Ott (the U.K.), I Make it to the Morning by Andre Shen (the U.S./China), NGGAK!!! By Oktania Hamdani and Winner Wijaya (Indonesia), We’ll Go Down in History by Cameron Richards and Charlie Tidmas (the U.K.) and Wait, Wait, Now! by Ramon Te Wake (New Zealand).
