Hyderabad: Cyberabad cyber crime police have registered two separate cases of online travel booking fraud in the past three days involving a combined loss of over 14 lakh to unsuspecting victims. In the first case, Taduri Rammohan Reddy, a trader from Kompally, filed a complaint on Saturday alleging that he and three of his friends were defrauded of 9 lakh in the guise of tour package for four families to Malaysia-Vietnam.
Reddy said that they had paid the amount to one Arun Kumar of TripByFly.com via net banking, digital payment platform and credit cards, but were issued fake flight tickets and hotel bookings. The GSTIN provided was also fake.
Reddy said the accused ceased all communications after getting the payment. In the second case registered on Sunday, Rishabh Nath of Kokapet filed a complaint reporting a fraudulent transaction while attempting to book accommodation at a beach resort in Goa.
Nath said he made an initial payment of 11,420 to the resort. He was later contacted to make further payments due to ‘system error’ and was connected to one Vikas, who claimed to be an accountant. Using refund pretexts and app-based codes, the accused siphoned off 5,36,370 from Nath’s bank account. Nath said when he contacted the resort staff directly, he was informed the accused were not associated with them. He subsequently filed a complaint.
