Some immigrant students on STEM OPT are facing an issue with the SEVIS portal that might cause panic if you don’t know what’s wrong. One student shared how they saw a red-highlighted warning beside their employment start date, even though the details were correct.
The warning reads: “Previously provided employer information from SEVIS is not complete. All required fields must be provided prior to saving.” This caused confusion, and the student contacted their university’s DSO, but they found no issues on their end.

As other students stepped in to help they were informed this warning was likely a glitch in the SEVIS system. It’s a common issue and doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong with your information.
The warning might be annoying, but it shouldn’t affect your STEM OPT approval. As long as your information is accurate and all fields are filled, you should be fine.

If the problem persists, don’t worry too much. Most DSOs concur this issue is caused by a technical glitch on SEVIS’ end, not a mistake on your part.
While it may cause frustration for many, what more can you expect from a system that has been faulty for years? That being said, don’t always ignore such warnings, and always be proactive and double-check your information.
