Vijayawada: Much to the chagrin of vehicle users, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has commenced the revised user fee collection at toll plazas across Andhra Pradesh. The enhanced toll charges came into effect at 64 out of 68 toll plazas, while the rates at the remaining four, including the Keesara toll plaza, are set to increase from September.
With the toll fee hike, traveling on NH-16 is set to become more expensive, as the toll charges at Kaza, Kalaparru, and Pottipadu toll plazas have been revised. Vehicle users are now required to pay an additional amount ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 20 on the existing toll fee rates.
At the Kaza toll plaza, where vehicle users previously paid a maximum toll fee of Rs 160 for a single journey in the light motor vehicle (LMV) category, the charges have been increased by Rs 15. As a result, LMV category vehicles will now pay Rs 175 for a single journey starting April 1. Additionally, the toll fee for two journeys within 24 hours at the Kaza toll plaza has been revised from Rs 240 to Rs 260, making it the costliest among all toll plazas in the Vijayawada and Amaravati regions.
Meanwhile, at the Pottipadu toll plaza, the toll rate for a single journey in the LMV category remains unchanged at Rs 65. However, the toll fee for a two-way journey within 24 hours has been raised by a nominal Rs 5, increasing from Rs 95 to Rs 100.
Furthermore, the fee for availing a monthly pass for LMV category vehicles at the Kaza toll plaza has been substantially raised by Rs 515, from Rs 5,275 to Rs 5,790. Notably, the Kaza toll plaza, located on the Vijayawada-Guntur route, is one of the most frequently used national highway roads, with tens of thousands of people commuting daily between the two cities for business and employment purposes.
