While presenting the Telangana budget in the Assembly on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka reiterated that the Congress government was committed to pioneering the development of India’s first net-zero Future City but did not announce any allocations for the project.
“Designed to rival the world’s top cities, this eco-friendly, ultra-modern metropolis will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and a pollution-free environment,” Vikramarka, who is also the finance minister, said in his budget speech.
This ambitious project is also one of the pet projects of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and is designed to compete with the best globally.
“Spanning 765 sq. km across 56 villages between the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar highways, this transformative mega-urban project is meticulously planned to drive innovation and economic growth. To ensure its seamless execution, the Future City Development Authority has been established,” Vikramarka said.
The minister said the city would support a sustainable and smart way of life. “This next-generation city will have multimodal connectivity, an electric public transport network, and green buildings, fostering a sustainable and smart living ecosystem. Additionally, it will house specialised zones such as an AI City, Pharma Hub, Sports City, and Clean Energy Innovation Zone, making it a global hub for technology, industry, and sustainable development,” he explained.
Regarding the AI City, Vikramarka said, “The government has planned to develop an AI City on 200 acres in Future City to equip Telangana’s youth and students with advanced skills.” AI City will feature data centres, high-performance computing facilities, specialised educational programmes, a public awareness centre, and a dedicated AI University.
Earlier this month, the cabinet approved the development of a 30,000-acre area for Future City between the Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar highways, announcing it as India’s first zero-carbon city, to be managed by the newly formed Future City Development Authority.
