Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy announced that the proposed airport at Dagadarthi in Kavali Assembly constituency will in all probability be ready by 2027.

Accompanied by Rajya Sabha member Beeda Mastan Rao, Kavali MLA Dagumati Venkatakrishna Reddy, Collector O. Anand and officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the MP on Friday visited Dagadarthi to inspect the land where the proposed airport will be constructed.

It was way back in 2019 that the erstwhile Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government laid the foundation stone for the airport project, which remained neglected during the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) regime. The project is proposed on a whopping 1,379 acres of land, of which 669 acres is under government possession, while 710 acres is yet to be acquired.

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is very particular about building this airport at Dagadarthi, which will be vital for the development of Nellore district,” said Mr. Prabhakar Reddy. As the airport land is located close to the national highway, and also with two ports in the vicinity, it will help usher in cargo and passenger services, he added.

As the region is poised to become an industrial hub, he called upon the AAI officials to ensure the completion of the airport project by 2027.
