Vijayawada: State govt has transferred the professional tax collection from Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada municipal corporations to commercial taxes department.
The commercial taxes department has decided to launch new online module for professional tax registration and filing. “The govt has entrusted the responsibility of professional tax collection in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporations to the commercial taxes department. We have started the implementation from April 1, 2025,” said state chief commissioner of taxes, Babu A.
He said that businesses and commercial establishments, professionals and self-employed individuals, salaried employees, GST taxpayers with an annual turnover exceeding ₹10 lakh, employers paying salaries above ₹15,000 per month are required to deduct and remit professional tax on behalf of their employees are required to pay professional tax. He said that the department has developed a user-friendly online platform to facilitate compliance. He said that the taxpayers can register and file returns through the “My Profession Tax Portal,” available at https://apct.gov.in/GSTPortal/Ap_index.aspx.
This initiative is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, efficiency, and ease of compliance in tax administration, said Babu A.
