Telangana cops crack down on vulgar social media content

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau launched multiple criminal cases against social media users accused of spreading vulgar content through their profiles and reels.
In Karimnagar, constable L Venkatesh filed a complaint on March 31, 2025, after noticing an obscene video posted by a handle ‘navvakapoththe_narukutha’. According to the complaint, the user uploaded a reel on Nov14, 2024, combining a video with a voice-over using obscene Telugu words. The complainant argued that such content distorts public behaviour, instils fear among social media users, and degrades women. The link to the offensive post and printed evidence was submitted along with the request for legal action.
At cyber crime police station Ramagundam, constables U Kumar and K Venkateshwarlu reported two accounts — ‘rey_thagudhamm’ and ‘local_mawa_’ — for repeatedly sharing vulgar content. The latter was also found modifying a poem attributed to Yogi Vemana, a revered Telugu poet. Both complaints highlighted the accounts’ use of obscene language targeting women.
In Siddipet, PC T Sai Krishna reported the user ‘memes.duniya.4’ for uploading a morphed video that inserted vulgar responses into an innocent puzzle video featuring girls. An FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the BNS and IT Act. In Warangal, cyber constable G Kishore Rushi flagged a reel by “toxic_thoughts_99” that featured two girls using explicit language in response to comments.
In Khammam, two separate accounts — ‘iam_revenger___7__’ and ‘trolls_telugu_00’ — were reported for parodying Telugu film songs using vulgar lyrics. The cases were booked under laws pertaining to obscenity and misuse of digital platforms.
The Bureau is continuing to monitor similar content statewide.
