Ready-to-harvest Rabi crop worst-hit; IMD issues orange alert for next three days

Hyderabad: Untimely rain accompanied by hailstorm and lightning strikes have devastated several districts in Telangana, leading to loss of lives, livestock, and extensive crop damage. At least three persons were killed due to lightning strikes.
In Padar mandal of Nagarkurnool district, two women working in the farm died on the spot due to lightning strike. In Gattu Macharla village of Jogulamba Gadwal district, two cattle succumbed to the hailstorm. In erstwhile Nizamabad, one person was killed due to lightning strike.
The Rabi crop, which was ready for harvest, was severely affected. Mango crops in different districts also suffered extensive damage. Mango crop was destroyed in 55 acres in Ravula Cheruvu village of Itikyala mandal. In Undavelli mandal, heavy rains caused damage to chilli and tobacco crops.
Districts including Mahabubnagar, Asifabad, Kamareddy, Nizamabad and Medchal have borne the brunt of this unexpected rains. Heavy rainfall was reported in areas such as Sadashivnagar, Jukkal and Indalwai of erstwhile Nizamabad district.
The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for certain areas in the State for the next three days.
