Business leaders adopt villages, families under P4 initiative in Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada: The ‘P4′ initiative launched by the state govt to eradicate poverty kicked off on Saturday with people coming forward to adopt families. Taking the cue from chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Karumanchi Prasad from Guntur offered to donate Rs 10 crore for the construction of a lift irrigation scheme on Kommamuru canal for the benefit of farmers.
Prasad, a native of Kakumanu in Guntur, has been running a seed company for the last 40 years. After watching the plight of tail-end farmers who often struggle as water doesn’t reach their fields, he decided to contribute to the CM’s P4 (Public, Private, People Partnership) program to build a lift irrigation scheme which can irrigate over 5,300 acres. Naidu directed irrigation officials to coordinate with Prasad and launch the works immediately.
Representatives from multiple organisations participated in the Praja Vedika program held by Naidu at Muppalla in Nandigama mandal and announced that they are adopting poor families. Gogineni Ravichandra, who owns an ethanol manufacturing unit in Peddavaram, came forward to sponsor the education of Pagadala Nagaratnam’s children and give her husband an auto. “We will also provide business opportunities to help them become entrepreneurs. Our company will fully support their economic upliftment,” he said.
Thotakura Srinivasa Rao from Green Way Group, a bricks manufacturing unit associated with 500 consultancies, adopted one family. He said that he will promote P4 in the digital market and will serve as a brand ambassador to help identify 1,000 beneficiaries.
Jayesh Kumar Shah, director of Twills Clothing, said it’s an opportunity for them to give back something to their state. “We were born and raised on this land, it has given us so much. We grew our business from the opportunities we got here. Now it’s our responsibility to give back. When the NTR district collector explained the P4 initiative, it filled me with joy and motivation. Whatever responsibility I’m given, I’ll carry it forward sincerely,” he said.
Madhusudhan Rao, representative of KCP India Sugar Factory, said the P4 initiative is unique and the first of its kind in India. “We support the mission to eliminate poverty. We have adopted Muktyala village and provided health cards to 800 people there. In Muppalla, we are adopting Velpula Manemma’s family and will support the education of students in that household,” he said.
