Hyderabad turned into a sea of saffron on Sunday (April 6, 2025), as thousands of devotees thronged the streets to take part in the annual Sri Rama Navami Shobha Yatra, commemorating the birth of Lord Rama.
Organised by the Bhagyanagar Sri Ram Navami Utsav Samithi, the grand procession began in the afternoon from the historic Seetarambagh temple in Mangalhat and is scheduled to conclude late in the evening at Hanuman Vyayamshala in Koti.
The yatra made its way through key localities, including Dhoolpet, Begum Bazaar, Siddiamber Bazar and Gowliguda, with streets reverberating with chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Several smaller processions merged into the main rally, amplifying the festive fervour.
At Puranapul, thousands of devotees lined the streets around 4.30 p.m. to witness the procession, which included people dressed in saffron, waving flags and dancing to devotional music. Despite police restrictions on the use of DJ systems during the yatra, loud music blared from trucks in areas like Puranapul. Security was heightened with heavy deployment of police and Rapid Action Force personnel along the route to ensure law and order.
Trucks depicting scenes from the Ramayana were part of the vibrant parade. A decorated trolley carrying a model of the Ayodhya Ram temple was a key attraction.
In a show of community spirit, local organisations and residents set up refreshment stalls along the route, distributing water, buttermilk and cool drinks to help devotees beat the summer heat.
