
Pieces of mortar fell from the historic Charminar following heavy rains in the city. The pieces from the north-east minaret scaring the tourists.
Pictures of the monument show that small piece chipped off Charminar as it was pouring.

A video has also been circulating on the Net which shows the damage. Charminar is managed by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI). The works on the monument happen regularly as Charminar requires cleaning due to darkening of limestone due to pollution.
The part that chipped off today fell on the Bhagyalakshmi temple side. However, this is not the first time this has happened.

In the past too renovation work was carried out at the monument. Access to the upper floors of the monument is closed for public and tourists.
The ASI is overseeing the conservation and repair of the 426-yr-old Charminar, by checking the cracks, impact of pollution, stucco work and designs.
