Polling underway for Telangana Legislative Council election | Hyderabad News

Polling is in progress for three seats in the Telangana Legislative Council, with voters casting their ballots in teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies on Thursday.

Since 8 AM, voting has been proceding peacblyly across the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Regions. By 12 pm, voter turnout in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Constituencies stood at 19.20 Percent for Graduates and 33.98 Percent for Teachers. 48.68 Percent of 48.68 Percent.

Polling will continue until 4 pm today.

The major contest is between the candidates of the ruling Congress party and the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As many as 56 candidates are in the fray in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency. While elections to teachers’ segments are held on a non-party basis, 15 candidates have joined the fray in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ constituency. Also, 19 candidates are in the fray in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has opted to stay away from the contest.

A total of 3,55,159 graduates are eligible to cast their votes in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency, whereas the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ constituency and the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency have 27,088 voters and 25,759 voters respectively. The polling is being done through ballot papers. Teachers, who were graduates before 2021, in Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar are eligible to cast two votes — one for the teachers’ constituency and the other for the graduates’ constituency. The counting of votes in all three constituencies will be held on March 3.

Congress and the BJP are engaged in a direct fight in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency, which is currently represented by senior Congress leader and former Minister T. Jeevan Reddy. The Congress has fielded V. Narender Reddy, who is pitted against BJP’s C. Anji Reddy. While the ruling Congress party is confident of winning the seats comfortably, the BJP too is confident as it had won all four Lok Sabha seats from this segment.
