A total of 284 motorists were caught during a special drunk driving drive conducted by the Cyberabad Traffic Police over the weekend, targeting intoxicated drivers across key areas in the commissionerate.
Of the 284 cases booked, the majority involved two-wheeler riders (248). Additionally, nine three-wheeler and 27 four-wheeler drivers were also found under the influence. No heavy vehicle drivers were caught during this operation.
The crackdown, which spanned police station limits including Miyapur, Jeedimetla, Balanagar, and Gachibowli, saw the highest number of cases (53) registered in the Miyapur jurisdiction. Notably, no cases were reported from Kukatpally and RC Puram.
All offenders were men, with most falling in the 31–40 age group (110 cases), followed by those aged 21–30 years (97 cases).
While 112 motorists had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) levels between 51–100 mg/100 ml, 58 were found between 101–150, and 21 between 201–300. Shockingly, 12 individuals had BAC levels exceeding 500 mg/100 ml.
All violators will be produced before the court. Police have reiterated that those found driving under the influence and causing fatal accidents will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
