Relaxed day in East Khasi Hills – Part 1
Day 14 : places around Nongjrong
Distance : 108.3kms
We woke up early before sunrise and walked from the Stay to the Sunrise View Point which is a few minutes away. People from Shillong started coming in by 3-4am. It was New Year’s Eve, wasn’t too badly crowded as anticipated.
It was a typical Nongjrong sunrise surrounded by the Clouds in the Valley, visibility was pretty good and not hazy. Here are the pictures as the sun rose.
Rules at the viewpoint, although a few were still playing loud music!
Back to the homestay after Sunrise
We got ready and had breakfast.
Then we headed down the hill, vistas on the downhill drive
Clouds on one side were still dense.
While clouds were already lifting up on the other side which were were heading towards.

It was a serene place without much crowds
We spent atleast an hour here by the crystal clear water, it was calm and serene
After spending over an hour by the drive, we planned to drive into further remote villages of the Valley towards Mawkyrnew and Jatah (https://maps.app.goo.gl/FBCv9cmGWDSXTJm19), these areas have a grassland type landscape and is a limestone belt. The pouring rains here during Monsoon would turn these areas green and water flows through the hundreds of streams into the main rivers!
