Apollo Hospitals on Monday released the fifth edition of its ‘Health of the Nation 2025 (HoN-2025)‘ report, sounding an alarm on rising lifestyle diseases. The report draws insights from a wide-scale screening of over 44,000 individuals across seven Apollo centres in Telangana and revealed worrying trends in obesity, hypertension, diabetes and vitamin deficiencies.

According to the findings, out of the 44,480 people screened, 63% were found to be obese and another 19% were overweight. The burden of hypertension was also significant, 23% of the 44,448 screened were diagnosed with high blood pressure while 55% were found to have pre-hypertension. In terms of diabetes, 25% of the 40,897 individuals screened were diabetic and 34% were pre-diabetic.

The data was collected from Apollo centres in Miryalaguda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Secunderabad, DRDO, Hyderguda and Jubilee Hills. The hospital said the insights were drawn from anonymised electronic medical records of preventive health checks, structured clinical evaluations, and AI-driven risk stratification tools employed across its hospitals, clinics, diagnostics labs and wellness centres.

The report also flagged concerning trends in mental and nutritional health. Among 20,612 people screened for depression, 3% were diagnosed with the condition. A similar percentage was noted for anxiety, with 349 out of 10,274 individuals found to be dealing with such symptoms. Anaemia was prevalent in 24% of the 13,418 people screened, while 82% of the 17,321 individuals tested were found to have Vitamin-D deficiency. Additionally, 22% of the 20,765 individuals screened for Obstructive Sleep Apnea were found to be at risk.

Preetha Reddy, executive vice-chairperson of Apollo Hospitals, called for urgent action in response to the findings. “The report underscores the increasing rates of obesity and pre-hypertension, which is deeply concerning. These are not just statistics but signs that we must act swiftly,” she said.
