Telangana High Court on Tuesday (April 8, 2025) dismissed a criminal appeal petition filed by five persons who were awarded death sentence in the Dilsukhnagar bomb blast case of 2013. The five convicts were alleged Indian Mujahideen operatives. The blasts triggered by them resulted in the deaths of 18 people, while several others sustained injuries.

With the dismissal of their appeal petition, the death penalty awarded by the NIA Special Court was confirmed by the High Court.

The High Court also confirmed the penalties imposed on the five convicts by the trial court. The criminal appeal petition was filed in 2016. The petitioners wanted the High Court to set aside the judgement pronounced by the special court on December 13, of 2016.

The dilsukhnagar bomb blast case was investigated by the NIA. The petitioners who were awarded the death penalty are
Ahmed Siddibappa Zarrar alias Yasin bhattal; Ajaz Shaikh; Zia ur rahman alias waqas; Asadullah Akthar Alias ​​Haddi and Mohammed Tahseen Akthar Alias ​​Hassan.

The first accused in the case, Mohd Riyaz alias Riyaz Bhaktal is still absconding.
