Andhra Pradesh’s GST collection in March stood at Rs 3,116 crore | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: Continuing the steady growth in tax collection, Andhra Pradesh’s GST collection in March stood at Rs 3,116 crore, which is the second highest in the 2024-25 financial year. The tax collections saw a downtrend in November and December 2024, but there was a gradual reversal of the trend from January 2025.
The net GST collection in March is the highest revenue for March since the introduction of the Andhra Pradesh Goods and Services Tax (APGST) Act in 2017. It also stands as the third highest revenue-generating month in any financial year since the inception.
The net GST collections rose by 8.35% year-on-year. The chief commissioner of state tax, Babu A, said in a statement that the increase in March tax collections reflects strengthened tax compliance, improved settlement adjustments, and a broader tax base within the state. The 5.09% increase in cumulative net revenue collections indicates the state’s strong fiscal position and sustainable revenue inflows, he said.
When it comes to gross collections of the GST for the year 2024-25, there is only a marginal increase of 1.19% from Rs 44,298 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 44,825 crore in 2024-25. The primary reason for the low growth in GST gross collections is attributed to the predominant dependence of the state GDP on the primary sector, which is exempted from GST.
When it comes to sector-wise tax collections, the state witnessed a 5.44% dip in VAT, which is levied on petroleum products, and a 4.02% dip in liquor collections. However, an increase of 15.05% in profession tax and 5.6% in GST compensated for the loss, resulting in a net increase of 1.73% in overall tax collections.
