Visakhapatnam: Hundreds of passengers were left stranded for over two hours near Palasa in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district after two air-conditioned coaches of the Howrah-bound Falaknuma Express became detached on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred between Summadevi and Mandasa villages, forcing an immediate halt of the train. Passengers initially feared a derailment but were relieved to learn that it was a coach separation incident with no injuries reported.
Railway officials along with technical teams quickly arrived at the scene and reattached the separated coaches after safety inspections. The train resumed its journey after approximately two hours.
The incident affected rail traffic in the region as one track remained blocked during the recovery operation, causing delays to several other trains on the busy route between Brahmapur and Visakhapatnam.
Railway authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the mechanical failure that led to the coach separation. Officials are examining maintenance records and checking for operational protocol lapses.
