A late-night joyride ended in a tragedy when a car carrying a group of young friends crashed head-on with a goods carrier on State Highway 1 in the wee hours of Tuesday (April 8, 2025) just outside Hyderabad. The high-speed crash resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left seven others injured.
The deceased have been identified as Shravan, 23, a passenger in the car, and Raju, 18, a passenger in the goods carrier. Those injured include Dashrath, the driver of the goods vehicle, and Babu, Prashanth Reddy, Vamshi, Ganesh, Vijay, and Praveen—all aged between 20 and 23—who were traveling in the car.
According to Genome Valley police, the incident was reported around 2.30 a.m. while the group was heading towards Hyderabad. “Vamshi, a B. Tech student from CMR Engineering College, lost control of the speeding SUV, that careened over the road divider, and crashed into an oncoming goods vehicle,” said Inspector K. Venkat Reddy.
Due to the impact of the collision, both the vehicles were mangled, killing the two on the spot. Others with critical injuries are currently undergoing treatment.
A case has been booked against the driver Vamshi and an investigation is underway.
