SSC student assaults two SC residential hostel inmates in Kurnool district

Two inmates of a government SC residential hostel at Kodumuru in the district were thrashed by a SSC student alleging that the duo were stealing belongings of the other inmates.

The incident took place on the night of March 11 but came to light on Sunday evening after which the family members of the victim boys came to the hostel and tried to assault the SSC student. A case has been registered against the student for assaulting the boys, police said.

Hostel warden G Ramudu said the student was removed from hostel last year for remaining absent for a long period. However, local caste associations intervened and convinced the hostel authorities to provide him food till the student completes his Class X.

On the day of attack, four children reached the hostel around 9.30 p.m from outside. The children claimed that they went for medicines but came back rushing after some locals shouted at them for wandering outside in the night time.

The SSC student took advantage and thrashed two of the students even as they cried in pain. The student took out his belt and thrashed the duo and also kicked and punched them. The student recorded the attack in his tab and circulated to some people. The family members of the victims also saw the video and rushed to the hostel and tried to attack the student. However, the hostel authorities stopped them and Ramudu lodged a complaint with the Kodumuru police for action.

Kodumur Circle Inspector Tabreez said they have registered a case and investigation is on.

On Monday night, District Collector P. Ranjith Basha issued orders suspending Mr. Ramudu for failure to perform his duties. “Though the incident happened on March 11, the issue was not brought to the notice of the higher authorities till the attack went viral on social media. Mr. Ramudu was suspended for not supervising the hostel affairs and negligence,’‘ the Collector said.
