Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath said that the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kurnool will be developed on par with a corporate hospital by 2029. “Though the State is facing severe financial constraints, we will overcome them and develop the GGH on the lines of a corporate hospital,’‘ Mr. Bharath said.
Mr. Bharath, in the presence of District Collector P. Ranjith Basha and other hospital authorities, on Tuesday inaugurated 2D Echo Colour Doppler machine in the cardiology wing of the GGH. The machine, which costs ₹61 lakh approximately, can diagnose heart-related issues in patients, including one-month old infants. The machine was purchased using the Medical College Development funds.
The Minister said that the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav are keen on developing the hospital into a super-specialty one. Satya Kumar Yadav is expected to visit the newly-constructed cancer hospital and research centre on April 19, he said.
GGH Superintendent K. Venkateshwarlu said that the present machine in the hospital can only diagnose health issues among persons above the age of 15. The new equipment will enable doctors to diagnose health issues in infants also. Kurnool Medical College principal Chitti Narasamma said that the new machine would assist in diagnosing heart valve issues as well, making it a vital tool for cardiac care.
