Development works at Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada gain momentum

Vijayawada: Development works at the Kanaka Durga temple in the city have gained significant momentum recently. Officials claim that a series of projects have been initiated and fast-tracked. Temple EO Ramachandra Mohan said that the endowments department has focused on strict implementation of the master plan and set a timeline for completion of various projects.
The two-storey Annadanam (food donation) building, designed to accommodate 1,200 devotees at once, is underway with an advanced kitchen, dining hall, offices, and stores. The ₹12 crore project is targeted for completion by October this year. Similarly, a six-floor Prasadam Potu building is being constructed at a distance from the main temple to avoid congestion, featuring facilities for preparing, packing, and distributing prasadams like laddu and pulihora. Four floors have been completed, and the ₹27 crore project is set to be ready by July.
To enhance safety on the Omkaram Turn—an area prone to rockslides during monsoon—experts have begun implementing rock mitigation measures and installing double-twisted mesh, with ₹4.26 crore allocated and a June deadline.
Additional projects include improvements in the Q complex such as water, parking, toilets, and medical facilities; a new BT road in Kanakadurganagar (₹50 lakh); a tensile shed near the Mahamandapam (₹99 lakh); permanent sheds in three locations (₹2.4 crore); and completion of the Navagraha Rati Mandapam (₹76.33 lakh). Other works underway include stainless steel benches for devotees (₹35 lakh), steel grills around the Shivalaya Prakara Mandapam (₹4 lakh), and gold-plating of the Shiva temple flagpole under TTD’s guidance. “We are committed to develop the temple with a vision for next 50 years. Majority of these works will be completed before Krishna Pushkaram in 2028,” a senior temple official said.
