Hyderabad Metro to expand to north, CM Revanth Reddy’s ‘new year gift’, says HAML MD | Hyderabad News

The Hyderabad Metro Rail will now be extended to northern Hyderabad — a long pending demand from residents of Secunderabad and beyond — as Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) to prepare detailed project reports for the same.

HAML managing director N V S Reddy Wednesday said Chief Minister Reddy had decided to extend the Metro to Medchal and Shameerpet as a ‘new year gift’ to the people of northern Hyderabad.

Hyderabad Metro operates 69 km in three corridors, namely Miyapur-LB Nagar, Jubilee Bus Station-MGBS, and Nagole-Raidurg. As part of the proposed Phase 2 expansion, another five corridors are planned between Nagole-Chandrayangutta-RGIA (36.6 km), Raidurg-Kokapet Neopolis (11.6 km), MGBS-Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), Miyapur-Patancheru (13.4 km), and LB Nagar-Hayat Nagar (7.1 km). Further, an RGIA-Fourth City corridor is proposed to be 40 km long.

According to N V S Reddy, the government has given its green signal for the preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) for the Paradise-Medchal (23 km) and JBS-Shamirpet (22 km) Metro corridors. The CM instructed N V S Reddy to prepare the DPRs immediately and send them to the Government of India for approval as Metro Rail Phase-2 Part-‘B’.

The announcement came after the CM discussed the same with M Danakishore, principal secretary, municipal administration, and N V S Reddy about preparing DPRs for these two corridors.

The corridor from the Paradise Metro station to Medchal will cover approximately 23 km, passing through Tadband, Bowenpally, Suchitra Circle, Kompally, Gundlapochampally, Kandlakoya, and the ORR exit.

Similarly, the Corridor from Jbs Metro Station to Shameerpet will cover about 22 Kilometres through Vikrampuri, Kharkhana, Tumalagri, Lothukunta, Alwal, Bollaram, Hakimpet, Tuula, and the orr exit, as explained by the metro md to the cm.

The CM also instructed Reddy to consult Malkajgiri MP and BJP leader Eatela Rajender for his suggestions and advice before finalising the alignment of the two metro corridors. Reddy said the CM wants the DPR prepared within 3 months and obtain the state government’s approval.

The CM, according to Reddy, has directed that the expansion should be taken up as a joint venture between the Central and State Governments. Reddy said the CM has instructed that these proposals be sent for the Government of India’s approval.

“After months of relentless efforts, unwavering determination, and unified voices, our dream of Metro expansion to North Hyderabad is now a reality! Hon’ble CM has announced Metro connectivity to our long-demanded corridors, fulfilling a critical need for our region,” said Sampath Reddy Mamidi of Medchal Metro Sadhana Samithi, whose organisation has been fighting for Metro connectivity to north Hyderabad.
