I reached the toll at Kothattai at around 10:30 AM and was surprised to see it unmanned as there were no booths near the boom-barriers.

I went to Mayavaram for the Vzahuvur temple Kumbhabhishekam and I took a slight variation of the route to linkup with the Cuddalore bye pass. This was also the default route suggested by Google and seemed to offer the best time, at that time when I started.
GST/NH
Started from Kamakshi Hospital, Thoraipakkam Pallavaram at around 6 am.
Stopped for breakfast at the new 89 coffee at Kallabiranpuram at around 7:45 AM.
Started by 8:15 AM and took the Tindivanam – Pondichery stretch.
State highways and some narrow roads for around 19 km
Took the right cut at Panjavadi and then the Thiruchitrambalam route on the poothurai road and connected with the kottaimedu road.
This will take us through Villiyanur and join the cuddalore bye pass at Korkadu.
Back on 4 lane highways
From there till Vaitheeswaran Koil it is a smooth ( and noisy) ride on concrete roads. I reached the toll at Kothattai at around 10:30 AM and was surprised to see it COMPLETELY unmanned as there were no booths near the boom-barriers, but fortunately worked well both ways for me.
Two lane State Highways roads
Took the vaitheeswaran temple bye pass and proceeded straight to Mayavaram on the Kumbakonam – sirghazi highway. Reached there by 11:15.
