The Kurnool police on Friday arrested five accused in connection with murder of Kasapogu Sanjanna on March 14 in Shareen Nagar in the city.
Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil said that the murder was the result of a long-standing rivalry between two families. The deceased, Sanjanna, aged 60, was the father of the 30th Division Corporator Mr. Jayaramudu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
On the night of March 14, Sanjanna was attacked near a religious place after attending a gathering. The assailants, led by Vadde Anjaneyulu, a rowdy sheeter, included his three sons and another person.
Police conducted a thorough investigation with the use of technology, including CCTV footage and technical surveillance. They watched the movements of the accused and identified the vehicles used to commit the crime. On Friday, police arrested the five accused at the outskirts of Kurnool city. The arrested were identified as Vadde Anjaneyulu (52), his sons Vadde Shiva Kumar (20), Vadde Tulasi (23), and Vadde Revanth (22), along with Mala Ashok (30).
The SP said that the police seized the weapons used for the murder, including sharp-edged knives and bamboo sticks, along with blood-stained clothes, mobile phones, and the vehicles used by the accused.
