Light to moderate rainfall forecast for AP over 7 days


Visakhapatnam: A well-marked low-pressure area over the west central and southwest Bay of Bengal has triggered weather alerts across Andhra Pradesh.

According to a latest bulletin from India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, isolated light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema are likely over the next seven days.

The IMD has warned of potential thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds ranging from 30–50 km/h from April 9 through April 13. Several districts, including Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal and Tirupati will face thunderstorms and gusty winds throughout the week.

The capital region of Amaravati is likely to experience cloudy skies with intermittent rain or thundershowers. Temperatures are expected to range between maximum 37°C and minimum of 24°C.

Wednesday brought some relief from heat in Visakhapatnam, where the maximum temperature dropped to 33.8°C, a 1.2°C decrease from the previous day, though still 2.3°C above normal. Kalingapatnam recorded 32.6°C temperature. with relative humidity at 74 per cent. Rainfall across the region, however, remained negligible.

Some areas continued to see temperatures above normal. Tuni reached 36.0°C, 0.7°C above the norm, while Narsapur and Machilipatnam reported highs of 36.5°C and 36.6°C. Nandigama recorded 37.2°C, though 1.4°C below the norm. Gannavaram registered 35.2°C, 2.2°C under the average, with relative humidity at 46 per cent.

Parts of the state have cooled down, with Amaravati at 36.4°C (down 0.5°C) and Jangamaheswarapuram at 37.9°C (down 0.1°C). Bapatla (35.4°C) and Nellore (36.1°C) remained stable, with no significant rainfall recorded.
