
A Meta employee had to face a less-than-ideal experience while looking for tech jobs in India.
Sharing his plight on ‘Blind’, the techie wrote about his desire to move back to India to be near his ageing parents. However, he quickly got introduced to the ‘India vibe’ after he started his job hunt online.

He accused tier-2 companies like Uber and Atlassian of highly ‘unprofessional’ behaviour due to them not respecting his availability time, expecting him to pick up whenever they called, and getting angry about not being answered outside of the calling hours.
He said, “Like typical India wala hisab – condescending attitude, not respecting time slots etc etc. Why would you call me outside of the availability I have provided and expect me to answer, and then be grumpy I didn’t pick up?”

While criticising these companies, the techie also praised companies like Google and Microsoft for their excellent recruiting machinery in India as compared to the competition.
India is a market with high demand and low supply for jobs; more often than not, employers don’t give that much weightage to their employees, considering them to be replaceable at any given moment.

Companies need to step up their game, making sure to streamline the unregulated recruitment process to better suit the needs of potential employees, at least treating them like other fellow human beings.
