Telangana: Unconfirmed earthquake warning triggers panic in Ramagundam


PEDDAPALLI: An unconfirmed, unverified message, predicting an earthquake in Ramagundam, posted by an ‘X’ handle triggered panic in the coal belt town on Thursday.

The post, shared by the self-declared earthquake prediction handle, Epic (Earthquake Research & Analysis), predicted a quake in South India, near Ramagundam.


“As per our research & analysis upcoming significant earthquake possible near Ramagundam, Telangana, South India. Tremors may reach up to near Hyderabad, Warangal, Amaravathi of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra…” said the post.

With the post being shared by people in different social media platforms, local people panicked. There were some who replied to the post on X, asking for information on precautions to be taken, while several others questioned the authenticity of the prediction. Some also asked Grok AI to verify the information and also to verify the credentials of the handle. There were no responses to the handle to the comments below the post.

The bio of the handle however mentions that the posts on its account were based on their research and analysis, which was at “an early stage” and that they were posting only to record the research and for the time stamp.
