Senior Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader T Harish Rao was taken into preventive custody on Thursday morning by Hyderabad police for allegedly obstructing officers who were going to arrest BRS MLA P Kaushik Reddy at his residence.
This comes just days after Rao was booked in a case of alleged tapping.
According to police, MLA Kaushik Reddy had gone to Banjara Hills police station on Wednesday afternoon to lodge a complaint that his phone was being tapped by the incumbent Congress government in the state. However, the SHO, K Raghavendra, was on his way out of the station at that time and Kaushik Reddy and his supporters allegedly blocked the vehicle. The SHO then got out of the vehicle, after which Kaushik Reddy allegedly continued to shout at him at his office.
Subsequently, a case was registered against Reddy, and police went to his residence to arrest him on Thursday morning, when Harish Rao allegedly obstructed the officers.
Harish Rao, a former minister in the K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) government and the former CM’s nephew, was on December 1 booked on the basis of a complaint of alleged phone tapping lodged by G Chakradhar Goud, a real estate dealer from Siddipet. Rao is an MLA from Siddipet.
Goud, the founder of the Farmers First Foundation, which provides support to families of farmers in distress, lodged the complaint at Panjagutta police station. Goud claimed in his complaint that his initiative of interacting with farmers in distress and helping families of farmers financially had led to political rivalry and acrimony with Harish Rao as he was getting support at the ground level in Siddipet. He alleged that he received death threats and that his phones were under surveillance.
