Caught copying, class 7 student hits teacher with rod at govt school in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A 12-year-old student of a govt school in Begumpet allegedly assaulted a teacher with an iron rod on the school premises on Wednesday. The student was upset after he was caught copying in the final exams.
According to the Begumpet police, they received a complaint from a teacher of the Govt High School at Bandimet in Begumpet, alleging that he was assaulted by a class 7 student with an iron rod on the head on Wednesday afternoon.
“Teacher Venugopal was assaulted with a rod used for ringing the bell. He sustained a minor head injury, and is out of danger. We have registered an assault case,” Begumpet inspector B Prasada Rao said.
School principal Chandrashekar Sharma said that the incident happened on Wednesday. The boy allegedly attacked him after the examination. “The teacher, along with others, went to the police station to sort out the issue,” he added.
Talking to TOI, Hyderabad district education officer (DEO) R Rohini said, “It was the first day of the exams. The teacher caught the boy copying, separated the boy from other students and allowed him to write the exam. After the exam was over, the student assaulted the teacher. After the incident, family members of the boy and the locals met the teacher and apologised for the student’s behaviour,” the DEO said.
It is learnt that the teacher agreed to withdraw the complaint, and no disciplinary action has been initiated against him, keeping in view his academic future.
However, the police inspector said that since the offender is a juvenile, a notice was issued to the family members of the boy regarding the complaint. “After the investigation, he will be produced before the juvenile justice board,” the inspector said.
