Jeweller kills son with cyanide-laced ice cream before taking own life in Vij | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: A 33-year-old gold jeweller, Vemireddy Saiprakash Reddy from Yanamalakuduru in Vijayawada, allegedly killed his seven-year-old son, Takshit, by giving him cyanide-laced ice cream before consuming it himself. Both were declared dead after being rushed to a hospital.
According to Penamaluru police, Reddy ran a jewellery business in the One Town area of Vijayawada. He is survived by his wife, Lakshmi Bhavani, and daughter, Takshita. His wife works at a local medical store to support the family.
Reddy had been facing severe financial stress for several year. Although the family managed to clear some debts, the ongoing pressure reportedly caused significant psychological distress.
On Thursday, while his wife was away at work, Reddy is believed to have given his son the poisoned ice cream and consumed the same substance himself. Around 6 p.m., both collapsed and lost consciousness. Alarmed family members and neighbours rushed them to a private hospital in Patamata, where doctors declared them dead.
Before taking the extreme step, Reddy reportedly made a final call to a close friend, Vijay, saying he and his son had ingested cyanide. The chilling message has left the community and the family devastated, particularly due to the loss of the young child, who was unaware of his father’s intentions. Police are now probing the source of the cyanide and whether anyone else was aware of or involved in the events leading up to the suicide. Post-mortem have been completed, and forensic analysis is underway.
The deceased man was under financial stress for years, which worsened during Covid when business came to near standstill. The pressure caused psychological distress
