The Karnataka High Court ordered a notice to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Wednesday in response to the bail petition filed by actress Ranya Rao, who is accused in the multi-crore gold smuggling case.

The sesions court refused to bail ranya on March 27, 2025. Before that, the Special Court for Economic Offences, Benguluru rejected her bail on March 14, 2025.

Ranya Rao, designated as accused number one, was stopped and detained around 6:30 PM on March 3, 2025, based on reliable intelligence indicating that she was transporting smuggled gold. Following that, officials reportedly seized 14.2 kg of gold, valued at Rs 12.6 crore on that date, which had been concealed around her waist and calf muscles using crepe bandages and tissues.
