Guntur: Mangalagiri will soon have a 100-bed hospital. IT and HRD minister Nara Lokesh has cleared the plans and will lay the foundation stone for the project on Sunday. The 100-bed hospital would be built on par with corporate hospitals and make it one of the best in the state. Lokesh conducted multiple review meetings with officials to finalise the building design. He has also set a deadline to complete the construction work within a year.
The hospital building will be constructed on 7.35 acres of land with 1,15,000 sq ft space. The state govt will spend Rs 52.2 crore on its development. The hospital is being built in a G+1 (ground plus one floor) in the first phase, with scope for future expansion. Besides key depts, the facility will feature three operation theatres and a dialysis centre. A thalassemia ward and a de-addiction centre will also be introduced.
Lokesh had promised to develop Mangalagiri govt hospital into a 100-bed area hospital during his Yuvagalam padayatra. He followed it up in the cabinet meeting soon after the NDA returned to power and not only secured the cabinet’s clearance, but also got sufficient budget allocation for taking up the project.
Incidentally, Lokesh’s grandfather and then chief minister NT Ramarao inaugurated the govt hospital in Mangalagiri in 1986. The hospital was reduced to providing only outpatient services due to the negligence of successive govts. For many years, people of Mangalagiri have been demanding the hospital to be upgraded into a 100-bed facility. It is going to become a reality soon.
