PPP model to revive stalled med colleges | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: In a move to fast-track the revival of stalled medical college projects, the govt has formed a high-level committee to finalise the Request for Proposal (RFP) and draft concession agreements submitted by KPMG Advisory Services Private Limited for medical colleges under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The state govt has taken up construction of about 17 medical colleges during the previous YSRCP regime and launched five colleges by 2023 academic year.
As per the original plan, another five colleges were scheduled to launch in 2024 academic year and remaining seven colleges by 2025 academic year. However, the Chandrababu Naidu-led NDA govt put the medical colleges project on hold citing shortage of funds. Surprisingly, the govt refused to launch classes in YSR govt medical college of Pulivendula even after getting the permission from National Medical Commission (NMC). The director of medical education (DME) requested NMC to withdraw the permission as the govt is not in a position to create the required infrastructur as prescribed by the commission.
Subsequently, the govt decided to go for PPP mode to complete the pending medical colleges.
