Alignment [Route] for the northern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) has been completed and the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) for the same is in final stages, according to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

The Ministry has invited tenders for preparation of DPR and it will take about four months for its finalisation. However, it is yet to initiate the process for alignment and DPR for the southern part of the RRR. The process will be initiated after finalisation of the DPR for northern part of the RRR, a MoRTH official said.

He was responding to the request from Telangana Government that requisite approvals for the northern part of the RRR and DPR for southern part to be expedited. The issue figured during the meeting convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs to resolve the pending bifurcation issues between the two States in February this year.

Hyderabad-Srisailam section

In respect of the proposed four-lane elevated corridor on the Hyderabad-Srisailam section of NH-765the MoRTH said that the four-laning of the Hyderabad-Srisailam section had been cleared up to the border (Krishna River), alignment was done and the approval process was underway. The State government, however, has requested that the road might be extended beyond river Krishna up to Srisailam, and the Wildlife Board had suggested to go for an elevated corridor as the extension has to pass over the Nallamala Forest Reserve.

The issue was being resolved and the four-laning of the Hyderabad-Kalwakurthy section was also under process, the Ministry said. The Ministry would also take up four-laning of Hyderabad (ORR) Manneguda section of the NH-163 as the case before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had been resolved.

The Ministry responded in negative when asked about upgradation of 16 State roads as national highways claiming that as per the Central Government’s policy, no State road was to be taken up for upgradation. It however asserted that expansion of road network in Telangana had nearly doubled since the bifurcation of the State.
