Guntur civic body seeks community support for clean city initiative

GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu called upon business organisations, philanthropists, industrialists, and affluent people in the city to join hands with the GMC in its efforts to transform the city into a clean city.
He said that the civic body took up the mission to make Guntur a clean city and it needs support from all sections of society. The Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMC) donated 50 sanitation pushcarts to the GMC on Friday. Legislators Mohammed Naseer, Galla Madhavi, Burla Ramanjaneyulu, and in-charge Mayor Shaik Sajila were also present on the occasion.
TMC General Manager Ashok Kumar formally handed over the pushcarts to Commissioner Srinivasulu. Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said that they resolved to make Guntur a clean city with the best infrastructure in the state, taking Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s vision as inspiration.
He said Guntur city’s overall development, keeping it clean, and making it green would be vital as it was the headquarters of the district hosting the global class-capital city Amaravati.
“We planned many projects in the city to showcase it as a model city in the state. We wanted to transform the city into a clean city before launching big-ticket projects,” said the Commissioner. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to achieve 100% door-to-door waste collection and eliminate garbage points across the city.
The Commissioner thanked the Tamilnad Mercantile Bank for their support in the form of providing the pushcarts, which are essential for improving sanitation. He emphasized that the city’s development and cleanliness programs would be accelerated with the support of prominent citizens.
He explained that they recently reorganised the sanitation teams across the city by granting additional staff to handle the garbage clearance. He said that they also brought a cluster system to manage the situation with ease.
Guntur East MLA Naseer appreciated TMC for coming forward to support the civic body’s initiative for Swachh Andhra Pradesh. He noted that the Chief Minister’s P-4 initiative would contribute to the progress of all sections of society in Guntur.
The MLA of Prathipadu, Ramanjaneyulu, said that several financially strong people are coming forward to join Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s vision P-4. TMC General Manager Ashok Kumar said that they would continue to contribute to the development of the city.
Additional Commissioner Challa Obulesu, Chief Medical Officer Dr Amrutham, corporators, and other officials were also present.
