Vijayawada: The construction of the main façade building at Rayanapadu railway station has been completed. It is all set for inauguration in the coming days.
The station is being developed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) for Rs 12 crore. Currently, the main façade, adorned with the traditional colourful theme of Kondapalli toy murals, is grabbing the attention of all passersby.
According to information, plans are afoot to inaugurate the Rayanapadu railway station at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu during the former’s visit to Amaravati to relaunch the Amaravati capital city works, which is expected to take place in the second half of April. If not, the railway station will be inaugurated simultaneously along with 104 other railway stations that were developed under ABSS across the country.
A source told TOI that the date of inauguration of the 104 railway stations is yet to be finalised.
Rayanapadu railway station, along with Gunadala railway station, is being developed as a satellite railway station in the Vijayawada region, with the aim to ease the burden on the Vijayawada main railway station. The new railway station would be acting as a bypass station for trains heading towards the Secunderabad and Nagpur routes, as well as those going towards the Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam routes.
Although the project was earlier targeted for completion by the end of 2025, the railway authorities executed the development works on a war footing, completing all the proposed development works ahead of schedule. Besides the station facade, the railways also developed the complete surface of platform-1 and cover over platform (COP), along with the development of waiting halls, modular toilets, and circulating areas at the station.
