Telangana social worker known for his social forestry initiatives is no more. He was the recipient of Vanamitra and Padma Shri awards for his tireless contribution to extending tree cover.
Daripalli Ramaiah, 87, was known as chettu Ramaiah or vanajeevi in Khammam where he made it his mission to plant more than a crore saplings. He received Padma Shri for his relentless work in 2017.

He suffered a heart attack at his home in Reddipally village, Khammam. CM Revanth Reddy remembered his contributions and expressed his condolenscences to his family. Ex CM KCR and ex minister KTR expressed their condolences to family of the tree man and remembered his services.
Prime Minister Modi tweeted saying – Daripalli Ramaiah garu will be remembered as a champion of sustainability. He dedicated his life to planting and protecting lakhs of trees. His tireless efforts reflected a deep love for nature and care for future generations. His work will keep motivating our youth in their quest to build a greener planet. My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this sad hour. Om shanti.

The green warrior left behind a legacy of environment protection. Ramaiah is known for planting mainly fruit-bearing trees and bio-diesel plants in Khammam.
