Hyderabad: Stargazers, get ready to witness one of the most beautiful full moons in the sky!
On April 12, 2025, the night sky will be illuminated by the delightful Pink Moon, also known as the ‘micromoon.’ This phenomenon occurs every year during the first full moon of April, marking the beginning of the spring season.
What is a Pink Moon?
The first full moon that signifies the onset of spring is referred to as the Pink Moon. Uniquely, this full moon is also called ‘micromoon’ as it will appear slightly smaller than usual because it is at its farthest point from the Earth — a position known as apogee.
But does the moon actually appear pink? The answer is no! Despite its name, the moon does not change its colour to Pink. The name Pink Moon is derived from a flower that blooms during the spring season.
It is named after the pink wildflower Phlox subulataone of the earliest blooming spring flowers in North America. The term originated during colonial times, when seasons were named based on environmental changes observed in nature.
When and Where Can I Watch the Pink Moon?
The Pink Moon will be visible to people across India from their homes, balconies, or rooftops. In India, it will appear early on Sunday morning, April 13, 2025, at 5:00 a.m. IST.
In the United States, the Pink Moon will be visible on Saturday evening, April 12, 2025, at around 8:22 p.m. EDT.
