Cyberabad traffic police conducting drunk driving tests in Hyderabad on Friday.

Continuing the crackdown on drunk driving, the Cyberabad traffic police booked 247 individuals across various zones in the commissionerate on Friday.

Those booked included 189 two-wheeler riders, 44 four-wheeler drivers, 13 three-wheeler operators and one heavy vehicle driver.

Chevella recorded the highest number of cases at 28, followed by Jeedimetla with 24, RC Puram – 23, and Shadnagar – 22.

Notably, no cases were booked at Miyapur and KPHB during this operation.

All 247 offenders were male. The blood alcohol content (BAC) levels recorded among the violators showed concerning trends. While 48 offenders had BAC levels below 50 mg/100 ml, a significant number, 104 individuals, were found within the 51–100 mg/100 ml range. Another 52 registered between 101–150 mg/100 ml, 20 between 151–200 mg/100 ml, and 18 between 201–300 mg/100 ml. Alarming levels were observed in five cases where the BAC was between 301–500 mg/100 ml.

The age-wise breakdown revealed that most offenders belonged to the 21–30 age group, which saw 93 cases, followed closely by the 31–40 age group with 88 cases, 49 in the 41–50 age group, and 13 were aged between 51–60. Notably, no minors and no individuals over 60 were caught in this drive.

The police said that those booked will be produced before the court and will be liable for legal action. The department also warned that anyone caught driving under the influence and causing fatal accidents will be booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and violators could face up to 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine.
