Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has called on the Supreme Court to impose deadlines for assembly speakers to make decisions regarding MLA defections.
He made these remarks in the context of the apex court’s recent ruling, which establishes a timeline for Governors to approve govt bills. This ruling follows a petition from the Tamil Nadu govt concerning the Governor’s delay in granting assent to approximately ten bills for over a year, prompting the Court to issue directives and set clear timelines.
In a post on X, KTR noted that both the BJP and Congress have repeatedly misused the office of the Governor to obstruct governance.
“The Supreme Court should also take cognisance of the rampant abuse of the Constitution by assembly speakers and set deadlines for decisions on MLA defections,” he said, referring to the BRS’s petition to the assembly speaker seeking the disqualification of ten MLAs who defected to the ruling Congress party.
