Small groups took to the streets on Friday to register their protest against the new Waqf legislation, which brings about significant changes in Muslim endowments and bodies that administer them.

Demonstrations were seen near the Mecca Masjid near Charminar, Azizia Masjid in Humayun Nagar, Ujale Shah Masjid in Saidabad, and other neighbourhoods. Protesters carried banners and signs denouncing the legislation and describing it as a “black law”.

Talks, deliberations, and public protest meetings have been planned on April 12, 13, 19, and April 26. These are under the banner of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Muslim Joint Action Committee, and also by Congress leaders. One of the public meetings – on April 19 – is scheduled at the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen headquarters in Dar us Salaam.
