The Andhra Pradesh government will begin a skill census, the first of its kind in India, on a pilot basis in the Mangalagiri Assembly segment on Tuesday.

A specially designed mobile app will aid enumerators in conducting the skill census. It is being carried out to identify the skills of the youth and extend the necessary training to them before providing them with better employment opportunities, said N Lokesh Naidu, Minister for Education, IT and Electronics.

The exercise will begin at 100 villages in the Mangalagiri Assembly segment, for which the local village secretariats have already been given permission to log into the mobile app. A total of 675 enumerators will visit 1,61,421 families, with 1,35,914 in the Mangalagiri segment and 25,507 in the Thullur mandal, to gather information.

The enumerators have been imparted the necessary training as to how to operate the mobile app and how to conduct the skill census. A technical team has been constituted to assist the field teams while the mapping too has already been completed, officials said.

Officials at the headquarters of the Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation will closely monitor the progress of the census. If any faults are found during the pilot project, they will be corrected before the exercise is conducted across the state, according to official sources.
